Mesopotam and Butrint, Albania is a fascinating destination that you can  explore during your travels.

In this fourth installment of blog series,  Any Excuse to Travel  and We Love Saranda dive into the rich history and cultural wonders of this remarkable place. One of the highlights of our trip was visiting the stunning Orthodox Church in Mesopotam, adorned with beautiful icons that tell stories of faith and devotion.

Butrint, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is another must-visit location within the Butrint National Park. Exploring this ancient city, with its well-preserved ruins and captivating architecture, felt like stepping back in time. We highly recommend taking a guided tour to fully appreciate the significance and beauty of this abandoned yet sacred place.

“Butrint was on my list of things to see in southern Albania, only because I’d seen a picture of a fabulous mosaic floor. It’s touted as THE place to see when you’re in this part of the world and not seeing it might be a little like leaving Rome without seeing the Colosseum.

Perhaps sensing my reluctance and balancing it against himself’s obvious enthusiasm, our intrepid guides at We Love Saranda sweetened the pot by adding a monastery to the mix and making arrangements to open it so we could have a look.
